School Zone

Yesterday observed two kestrels hunting on the east side of the junior high school. This morning in a brief respite from thundershowers spotted this pair of red-tailed hawks hunting from a street light on the west side of the school. School is not in session and they are not hunting school children!

Visited the east side of the school and again saw two American kestrels. One kestrel disappeared into a high drain leading to the school's flat roof (possible nesting site?). The other was chattering and diving in the trees and soccer field when I arrived, and it soon flew east carrying a mouse. Other birds don't like hawks and kestrels in their midst, and these birds harass and chase predators away (see extra, believe a tree swallow is chasing a kestrel with mouse).
