Crusted snowflake

So excited when the flakes started falling today...to the naked eye they appeared to be small and single, perfect for capturing the crystal structure with an extension tube...

...surprised to find that they were very crusty and beautiful even though considered imperfect for this and this even more amazing kind of photography.

Info:
- flakes allowed to fall on a sheet of glass that had been left out to get cold...that would be minus 19 degrees Celsius, minus 3 degrees Fahrenheit
- 31mm extension tube on the 50 mm lens
- camera handheld, manual focus, lens right up against the glass
- brightly lit from underneath...sheet of vellum between glass and light to diffuse the beam
- processing: tight crop, curves, levels, and inversion
- post blipping: hot tea to stop the shivers
