Pitch and Pay Lane

This cottage Is close to the bottom of Pitch and Pay Lane. In the 17th century a wooden stile was on the boundary between plague infested Bristol and the countryside around. Villagers brought their produce to the stile and pitched it over to the townspeople who threw back their coins in payment.
