DunCarron Medieval Village

Today we (my driver... ekhm, boyfriend) went to see the only (as far as I know) purpose built fort in Scotland, that will eventually house a whole medieval village. As you can see, we received a warm welcome, Scottish way. It was good fun, with a chance to observe blacksmith at work, try traditional foods and have a go at axe throwing.

Here's a short description of the whole idea from Clanranald facebook page:

"The Clanranald Trust is currently building a full-scale replica of an early Medieval Fortified Village. This will be typical of the Scottish Clan Chief's residence throughout the earlier part of the last millennium.

An authentic medieval working community atmosphere will be created, where groups, parties and individuals can participate in and view a range of activities, typical of the period.

This will be a living-working village where people will produce arts and crafts by traditional methods from their workshops. Every effort will be made to utilise clothing materials similar to the times, and Staff and Volunteers will be in period dress."

I can't wait to go see it when it's finished!
