Tree fall

A spectacular finale to our three month tenancy of a cottage in Piltdown beside the busy A272: a mature oak tree fell right across the road about 500 metres to the east of our cottage just after 4pm, bringing traffic to a halt on this normally relentlessly busy main road. Fortunately (and somewhat amazingly) nobody using the road was hit by the falling tree, and nobody ran into it.

The road was still closed when I took these photos (with the permission of the police officer attending the scene!) at around 6:15 - 6:20 because the tree had knocked down some power lines, and the utility company had given the relevant authorities a four-hour slot within which they promised to attend!
