Journey

This is a blip of a beautiful sculpture in Durham's Millenium square. Originally made in wood (and sited on Lindisfarne/Holy Island), it depicts six monks carrying the coffin of St Cuthbert and commemorates their escape with his remains from Holy Island, ahead of Danish invaders. Their journey took them through much of Northumbria before they found a secure resting place in Durham and Durham cathederal was built to house his body. This version is a bronze cast from the original. The expressions on the monk's faces are very haunting.

Today was my first really festive one of the season, with a carol service this morning and outdoor singing this afternoon... Christmas is coming, there's no holding back the tide!!

Thanks to all who popped by to comment on yesterday's pic, was lovely to get such nice responses :-)
