Tomorrow marks the annivrsary of the Battle of the Somme where my great uncle Jim was killed on July 1st, the first day of fighting. He and his brother Duncan were runners carrying messages, as well going over the top with the 17th HLI, although Duncan survived and came home. James is buried out there but mentioned on the family stone.
Such a tragic waste of young men's lives from both sides.
