Embroidery, Bishops Palace Wells

I had a lovely day with my friend Maryrose - after venting steam for a while and not managing to put the world to rights we went to Wells to the Bishops Palace Gardens which were stunning and then she treated me to a belated birthday lunch. The gardens are full of beds planted with sweeps of colour and of course the swans were about complete with their cygnets ( see extra).

The embroidery exhibition featured exquisite work reflecting the changes in the Church's history. Learned many fascinating new terms in connection with the designs on the copes. Who knew bumf  was thread used to fix golden threads so they didn't have to be sewn on the wrong side of the material.
