Abstract Thursday – Mystery
To me it is a mystery exactly what this architectural structure represents at the exhibition of the Pop-Up Cities Expo in Edinburgh.  It is called the Rotterdamwatershed and constructed of pipes, many of which have grass, above a pool of water with stepping stones.
Five cities have exhibits of temporary or pop-up buildings including examples from Edinburgh, Dundee, Bergen and Vilnius.  The significance of the other exhibits was much more obvious especially the wooden Bergen pavilion with a video commending the use of building large structures of wood. Dundee’s log cabin is made from trees which had blown down in a gale in a local woodland park and will eventually be used as a bicycle shed in the park.  I liked the Rotterdam structure (extra) and assume it must be meant to indicate how natural and recycled materials could be used but perhaps someone reading this knows its meaning.
