The Cow and Heron

We are in Évora now, having driven over a lot of the lower Alentejo, sort of touring, sort of looking for possibilities to live. Husband is very keen on water sports, so we were pleased to find a small hotel on the edge of the Vale do Gaio reservoir with a few canoes - usually there is nothing - something we find intriguing - do the Portuguese not like water sports, or what?

We walked across the dam in the baking heat, after a fair drive down a dusty road, looking forward to a beer at the hotel - but a big sign told us clearly when we got there - "We are not a cafeteria and we do not serve drinks!"

If we ever have a place, hoping we can be more hospitable, and maybe we could call it The Cow and Heron...
