Barbie the Bat

We had our monthly meeting at the Friends of Belair National Park this afternoon, and the talk was by Mary the bat lady - she brought along a couple of live ones to meet us, and I fell in love.

This one is Barbie the Broad Nosed Bat - a microbat, and one of 8 species that live in our local area.  Tiny little thing, and weighs no more than 18 grams.  She is a rescue and has damaged membranes so cannot be released back into the wild.  She lives in a large tent in Mary's back yard.  Apparently these tiny things can live to about 40 years of age.

The Rower's first comment - gosh it looks just like Mish.

Lovely to see.
