Weights & Measures

Used to be called "das Aichamt", now spelled "das Eichamt", is the department responsible for weights & measures and one of the very occasions where the German name for a Government department is way shorter than the English equivalent.

This door is on the side of the Rathaus (Town Hall) in the middle of the city.  And I've walked past it hundreds of times and until today, I've never been available to decipher that first letter.

It's not a door for tall people (I reckon you'd have problems if you're over 145cm/5ft 6 tall).

It was the Sunday after Germany finally managed to beat Italy in a major football championship for the first time.  Didn't half jangle a few nerves getting there though.  I reckon that most of the country had to have a lie in this morning.
