The Happy Centurion

Many different historical periods were represented at the Peterborough Heritage Festival, from Romans to the Second world War (see extra). Pete and I dropped into Peterborough early to have a quick look round, and ended up buying a tray of plants from a stall specialising in herbs - our purchases included motherwort, Aztec sweet herb and camphor thyme.

In the afternoon we went to meet Pete's Mum at the St.John's Church fete. It's years since I've been to anything quite like it, and I must admit that I felt a bit like a fish out of water. But the cup of tea was good, the cakes were ridiculously cheap, and though we didn't win anything in the raffles, we were given a couple of prizes that other people didn't want!

After another cup of tea with Molly and Trev, and a tour round their very pretty garden, we drove up to Billingborough to do an hour or so's plant recording, narrowly missing all the heavy showers that were drifting across the fens. When we arrived home there was just time to cook dinner and eat it before collapsing into bed!
