Aberration

An interesting find this morning among the hundreds of meadow browns down in the meadow. Its a slightly damaged specimen but its not a normal maniola jurtina. In its typical form the orange marking on the upper forewings spreads from the eye spot across the wing towards the body but in this individual the orange colour is truncated and the upper wings have a darker brown colouring. I think this is one of the four named sub-species - possibly splendida, but I'm not sure.
