Reflections

I have been reading a novel called Sweet Caress by William Boyd and the central character is a woman who is a photographer.  I am a fan of William Boyd anyway but I felt I just had to read this story.  Today I came across a part where the main character is thinking about the difference between colour and black and white photography.

"....paradoxically, monochrome - because it was evidently so unnatural - was what made a photograph work best."

A (printed) photograph captures a moment in time and preserves it for us to view whenever we want, it becomes an entity in its own right, but I think there are plenty of people who would disagree that it has to be in black and white.
