Magnificent

This one has to be extra special . . . it’s one orchid that we have managed to encourage back to life again for its second flowering. And what a  beauty!
We are never too sure what is the best thing to do with orchids when the last flowers have fallen. They will stay in flower for months, but once they begin to fall, there is nothing we can do to extend the flowering period.
The main effort then is crossing our fingers and hope against hope that we can encourage them to bloom a second time round, and even more.
By experience we usually find that as good as anything is to relegate them to a windowsill in our shower room. They seem to thrive on the  moist warm atmosphere generated by the shower once or twice a day is good for them.
This one has certainly responded to that treatment — you could scarcely call it tender loving care, but whatever, it’s the second orchid this year to respond on that windowsill, and others in  the past have been just as prolific when they flower again.

They say that showering is better for us, as well as the environment in saving water, rather than running a bath.  If this is one of the results, who am I to argue?
