Ted's Gold Medal!

We stopped off after shopping at the Birtwistle Community Centre in Colne.

Peter Birtwistle who the Community Centre is named after went as a young man from Colne to Canada. He made his fortune in the jewellery trade. (He was a wheeler dealer really). Just before he died he had a fall out with people in Canada and changed his will and left all his money to Colne but the council couldn't touch it for 20 years. He also left his four and a half crt. diamond ring for the Mayor of Colne. Because the ring size had to be changed every 3 years (they were Mayor for 3 years then) the council decided to put it into a pendant for the Mayoress which the Pendle Mayoress is only allowed to wear on an engagement in Colne.

We have seen the improvements over the last few years at the Community Centre and the Union flowers with Ted and his medal look good.
