Great Spotted

Startling to find the feeder bereft of nuts when it seems we are constantly refilling it. This rather large but magnificent Great Spotted Woodpecker was having a tough time and needed a top up.

I think he lives in the poplar trees next door. Very alert and cautious it only takes a slight movement for him to be off so this was shot through the window hiding behind a pillar. As soon as I tried to be too clever with the lens he flew off at speed. I know what my next job is!
