Risca Sunrise

I was on call during the night. There were a lot of clouds and the sight of stars was minimal, so some local star photography wasn't on the cards. After a schedule call I got to bed about 1am only for the phone to go about 2.30am with a job.

About 3.30am I could see the sky was starting to lighten as the sun made its appearance for the day. I found a view overlooking Risca, a small welsh village just outside Newport, and looking east watched the colours change in the sky. The blip photo catches Risca asleep with the sun rising over the nearby mountain of Twmbarlwm and its Iron Age Hillfort.

Risca is probably derived from the Latin "Isca", from the Welsh "yr is cae" meaning 'the lower field, enclosure or hedge', or from "yr hesg cae" meaning "field of rushes or marsh'.

The wide angle picture of a sunrise fits in nicely with the Wednesday wide angle theme of 'nature'.
