Why the long face?

It's an old joke, but still a goody. Saw this chap on a little after tea stroll. Nice fella that he was, he came over to say hello. I took his photo then felt a bit guilty I hadn't got any food to give him. 

I told him "I'll bring an apple next time I come pasture way."

He didn't laugh. Ah well, I tried.
