brazil and other stories

salvador

fantastic day in salvador. the old part of the city has a similar feel to lisbon - hilly, cobbled streets, ceramics, colourful buildings.

it's also rough around the edges - to a much greater extent than lisbon. brazil's north east is the poorest part of the country. there is a heavy police presence wherever there are tourists; touristic areas also seemed "cleansed" of beggars etc who you find everywhere in rio. despite some ethical question marks around all that, we had a really positive experience of the city. this small photography/mixed media exhibition took up the walls of the place we had lunch - delicious salad with whiting and peanut cheesecake.
