Life through my eyes

A lucky escape

This morning we went swimming and then after lunch we rode to The Farmers Table Cafe at Tortworth.  Last time it was very cloudy so it was nice to see the view on a sunny day.  We had a nice coffee and cake and then rode home.  We had gone through country lanes and came back down the big hill and along the A38.  As we had a long steady climb Mr T wanted to test his battery boost so he went up first and I would meet him at the top.  I could see him waiting and a lady approaching him.  As I got closer I heard her ask was he hit by a car.  No but a branch had knocked him off the path and into the road.  A very badly cut arm (almost the whole length and width of his lower arm).  The lady who had stopped was a nurse and her husband a first aider so they got him across the road and sat down.  As luck had it we were outside the pub so they had a first aid kit and two staff were so good.  Gave us water, somewhere safe to lock the bikes up and a lift home so we could get the car and collect the bikes.  Then off to Southmead A&E, and a two and a half hour wait (which was three and a half shortly after we arrived).  A doctor cleaned and dressed the wound, which was very painful and gave him a tetanus.  He was such a star and was worried about his bike being hurt and how long until he can swim and ride again.  Who says exercise is good for you?
