German War Cemetery, La Cambe, Normandy

A few kilometres from the American landing site at Omaha Beach.  In this cemetery are buried more than 20,000 German soldiers who died in the battle for Normandy during the Second World War.

The cemetery has mass graves as well as plaques each indicating where two soldiers are buried.  A sobering number of the dead were aged 20 or under.

There are several other, smaller German war cemeteries in Normandy.
