Len Lye Inspiration

Tonight we are in New Plymouth.  I wanted to see the new Len Lye Centre.  This building is like  a huge sculpture with its shimmering stainless steel exterior rippling and reflecting.  The inside walls are made of concrete and are also rippled.  Len Lye was a pioneer of kinetic sculpture so the movement theme is very appropriate.  The main shot is the exhibit Four Fountains by Len Lye.  These are bundles of rotating stainless steel rods.  The biggest one makes noise as it rotates and flexes.
The extras are two opposites in design.  The Len Lye Centre opened last year and the Whanagamomona Hotel built in 1911 from timber and corrugated iron.
