Sad day as a vet nurse :'(

As i mentioned in my about me i am a studying veterinary nurse. I wanted to take this oppertunity with this sad day to talk about such cases we see. This little lady of 9yrs old came in to see a vet with laboured breathing. It turned out after emergency diagnostic tests she had a pyometra(womb/uterus infection) the stage of the infection was life threatening for her and the toxins were at a high level. We did a blood test that also confirmed her kidneys were not able to work correctly. To give the little dog chance to survive we operated and removed the womb and therefore the infection but in recovery her own natural oxygen level wasnt good and so she was on oxygen support which you see in the picture above also surrounded by heat sources as her temperature was through the floor. I sat with her from 10.20am after her op right through to 3pm doing obs every 15mins not leaving her side and doing everything possible to improve her recovery. Unfortunately the extremitys of the toxins got the better of the poor lady.. We revived her 3 times through the day but she was unresponsive from oxygen deprevation and weakness.her inability to breathe properly wasnt getting the oxygen through her body to her organs and her body tissues so she couldnt move.. Her owners sensibly had her suffering ended.. Our nursing and veterinary team worked amazingly today despite the very sad and tearful ending and believe me we love your animals and we go through it all with them. It is so hard to see things like this no matter how many times you see it. I do agree tht to the public it seems extortionate prices for things these days but if u think ov it this way.. We have nhs free care.. Animals dnt av this option :( only private care exists... How much is a visit to a private doctor?£80-£120... Our consults are £33.. Your pets are your family and responsibility.. They rely on you to know wen they need help :( they cant pay themselves.. Animals might help you with company n provide you with laughs and can even save your life dont they deserve the same in return?? Xxx.
