pushing the odds

what are the chances of having a spare tent when your tent blows down and a pole breaks?

we'd planned a whole 3 weeks on the Outer Hebrides, but after 2 weeks the wind changed our plans.

Stormy weather had moved in. We survived the worst of the wind over night and woke up with the campsite skip full of ex-tents and the site emptying, while most people retreated elsewhere.

Unfortunately the wind later changed, broad-sided the tent and one of our poles snapped!   But we'd come prepared for a extra wild camping trip with a small hiking tent, so we managed one last night before we abandoned the Scottish west coast for home on the east coast, where the next week's weather forecast looked better.

None of us are particularly big but it's a bit of squeeze in the one small tent for 2 adults and a 6 & 7 year old!
