Bridge a link between orchard and wharf

We learned when we were researching the Motueka Wharf 100 Years book, that the orchardists were prepared to pay for most of the road and bridge that would make a short cut from their orchards to the wharf for their produce. This was in the 1920's. Three local bodies looked at the proposal every now and again over the next 50 years but it was always turned down because of cost.
Finally in 1968 the link between orchard and wharf was made with a new road around the coastal highway. A bit ironic as by then the wharf had been made redundant by the Cook Strait roll on roll off ferries. Still, we enjoy not having to wind in and out all the little inlets and estuaries and still get a view of the tide and it's many moods.

For Mono Monday theme of Links this was taken from the hill by the Mariri dump (now called a Refuse Station) with the tide in.
