Gongoozling down by the rivet

A Sunday just as it should be. Breakfast in the garden again in bright sunshine, even had a bit of toast too. A quiet morning doing not very much.

For today's walk we rode our bikes into town so that we could walk along the banks of the River Medway, somewhere different to our usual every day trots around Bearsted, The Woodland Trust or Mote Park.

Very pleasant it was too. Many people sitting outside at The Malta Beefeater pub, enjoying the sunny afteroon. A new(ish) kiosk had opened in the old Lock Keeper's Office which was doing a roaring trade, selling tea at £1.50 a cup which we enjoyed sitting beside the lock watching boats and people.

The lock here is tidal so is only operational a couple of hours either side of high tide. As the tide was up we were able to gongoozle as a boat came up the river and into the non-tidal section of the River Medway.

Enjoyed the first tomatoes today along with the last of the strawberries and the last of the broadbeans. The season is passing along too quickly.
