A craft from the past

Many years ago I used to enjoy patchwork - usually just a cushion - making up the design with pieces of paper and joining them all by hand. It seems that this method is not used very much now (the sewing machine makes it quicker) but seeing this fabric in the cupboard inspired me to have another go!  Handmade patchwork has the advantage that it is portable - in the garden, on the beach - wherever!
So most of the patches are cut out now - for a version of Martha Washington's Star.
