Avial fur performs the same as mammals', but in an entirely different manner.  Birds are so impressively adapted to their niches in this world.  Witness their feathers, marvels of gravity-defying aerodynamics.  Extremely lightweight, but strong, they come in many specialized forms from flight feathers to this tiny downy bit that insulates the bird.
