Finally we come face-to-face!

There's been the usual damage to my Solomon's Seal plants this year, but I haven't seen the sawfly larvae that are responsible. Then, yesterday evening, whilst trying to get a photograph of a tiny beetle this enormous caterpiller suddenly filled my camera viewfinder. It seems just one fat caterpillar is carrying out the current leaf-shredding! Has it eaten all the others to get this fat? Most likely the others have already dropped to the soil to pupate, leaving the entire remaining food source to this one. I didn't have the heart to kill it - it will probably burst soon anyway! ...also, I'm finally back posting on Blipfoto - hello again!!
