A Meandering Life...

Tinkering & Fettling

Not all cars need a dab of varnish but I guess Matilda isn't like most cars.

For the past few days I have been rubbing down and layering coats of varnish onto her woodwork. The timber is Ash and when water gets under the varnish it turns grey (see extra). It quickly spreads.

The only way to get rid of it is to take all the old varnish off and start again. I'll get about 4 layers done before her show next week but I'll do about 6 or 7 in all.

She is 46 next Thursday so a little scrub up doesn't hurt.  ;o)
