Salmon with watercress and lumpfish "caviar"

This was the second of six courses at tonight's dinner, a tasting menu at JSW in Petersfield. A sad course of events led us to be given the dinner plus overnight accommodation at the Michelin 1 Star restaurant in Petersfield by our friends Chris and Wendy. Since booking the event Chris has started chemotherapy and was unable to go or get a refund so they very generously donated the experience to us.

It was a bitter sweet sensation knowing why they could not be there but we did our best to enjoy the evening and toasted their health and happiness during the evening.

The meal could be accompanied by a flight of wine to match each course so it would be churlish not to have a go. Don't ask me the names of the wines or the detailed menu but you can click here if you want to find out! The wines complimented the food very well. Before the salmon was a gazpacho with crab, then chicken, lamb, strawberry tea ending with lemon curd parfait. Coffee came with jammy dodgers and smoked salted caramel chocolates served on a bed of wood chips. Very interesting. Instead of the parfait I had cheese and breads, samples of 8 local cheeses with a heavy red wine. Excellent too,

A quick stroll around the town helped the digestion before turning in for the night. While OK, the room was quite noisy being on the main street but it did quieten down around midnight.

All in all a very pleasant experience which complimented our wedding anniversary tomorrow. A good way to celebrate the occasion.
