Pilgrimage

Set off early (by open topped bus!) to visit the Basilica di San Luca https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctuary_of_the_Madonna_di_San_Luca,_Bologna which we'd seen far off in the hills outside the city from the top of the tower yesterday. Had a look at the Madonna (covered in silver and jewellery) then walked down the longest colonnade in the world, all nearly 4km of it, back to the town via a fabulous little trattoria that we'd seen recommended. It had changed....passed on to the younger generation, but a fantastic lunch. More walking...to city art gallery, but we decided to give up on that and came back to the hotel for a rest then headed out again to catch the only thing we haven't yet seen-apparently 'the saddest face in art' on a terracotta statue. But we got lost again (although did stumble across a little shop where I got a crazy gorgeous necklace!) so by the time we found the church it was closed. Oh well, I doubt I need to see sad faces....feel more connected to the 'Fat Madonna' (that's really what she was called!) we saw today!
Had a drink in last night's bar (Aperol spritz for me-love it) then on to another-a sort of bookshop with bar and restaurant. Perfect. K had enough Prosecco to drown in and needed to stop for carry out pizza on the way home!
22,000 steps today.....doubt I'll have walked off even half the lunch!
