Local History

I discovered this plaque on the wall of a local furniture shop.  It gives details of previous use of the site.  This building, the former George Hotel, was also a livery establishment built in the 19th century.  The proprietor, George Aird, was a founding member of the International Burns Federation.

Prior to the hotel being built it was the site of Sandy Patrick’s Pub, allegedly frequented on a regular basis by Robert Burns himself.  He did like the odd tipple, or so we are told.

Anyway, something different for a Saturday, and I am looking forward to my little treat from Mrs F arriving in 8 to 10 weeks.  Thankyou Mrs F.

If you look carefully there is almost a selfie in the refection on the plaque.
