Today is Lammas, the Feast of St Peter ad Vincula, Yorkshire Day, the celebration of the Battle of Minden and the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834, for which a Yorkshire MP, William Wilberforce, had campaigned. Yorkshire Day celebrates the historic county as "a protest movement against the Local Government re-organisation of 1974".

Lammas (Anglo-Saxon hlaf-mas, "loaf-mass"), is the festival of the wheat harvest and the first harvest festival of the year. It was customary to bring to church a loaf made from the new harvest. Or perhaps a lamb.
