A Dane in Norway

Viking fortress

Last stop in Denmark, before heading north to the ferry was the Viking fortress at Aggersborg, the largest of the five known such fortresses. Build at around 980 AD,  they are believed to have been vital for the unification of Denmark into one kingdom back then. The last one found was never completed and there are strong evidence to suggest it was destroyed in a battle. Aggersborg was by far the largest of them, suggesting the king had seat of power in this area.

I'll be reunited with Ulrike in Stavanger at four in the morning tomorrow. Can't wait!
