The Valley of the Giants

WHR Day 10.

*Back blipped Day 9.

The weather turned much much better today
After a 3hrs 1000m climb we found ourselves sat at the Augstbordpass (2893m) in t-shirts, a wonderful change after yesterday.

After the two days between Mont Fort and Arolla this is my next favourite day on the WHR. The route is challenging and seems implausible, but the path through and across the walls of scree that form the southern wall of the Stietalgrat is a wonder, only surpassed when we suddenly turn into the Mattertal (Matterhorn Valley). The view is sprung onto us as we crest a ridge and turn 90° simultaneously - and it's a view that on a day as grand as this is simply stupendous, spectacular cliffs and ever rising peaks draw the eye to the alpine giants - peaks  rising well above 4000m abound.
Smiles all round - a happy group ( see extras) and a happy guide - all that remains now is a wander down to beautiful historic Jungen and the quaint little lift, and then all objective danger is over & my hard work is done.
