Missing piece

“But how can you believe with no evidence?” I genuinely wanted to know.

“How can you believe only when you have evidence?” The old monk smiled. “Tell me, have you experienced Jenga?” He nodded towards a structure on the monastery lawn. The tower was constructed from a large number of regularly-shaped wooden blocks stacked upon each other to a height of just over a metre. “The idea of Jenga is to remove as many of the component parts as possible without destroying what has been built.” As he spoke, he carefully slid blocks from their positions and laid them gently upon the grass. “Faith is like Jenga - the more one thinks about it, the fewer supports are needed.” The pile of blocks on the lawn was growing taller. The tower, although noticably less substantial, was still in place. “ I have been playing Jenga for a very long time and I am…” (he stopped speaking for a few seconds as he gingerly extracted another block) “.. very good at it.”

He stepped back from the tower which now consisted of a single block of wood sitting just over a metre above the grass.
