Getting the sparkle back

Hunched heron

On the island again at Blackford Pond. I don't think I want to be a heron - they do spend a lot of time looking depressed.

The liltte grebe chicks have fledged - two of them, both being fed by their parents. One is quite a lot bigger than the other, but it was the younger one who was being fed more. I do hope they will be OK, they are so small and would be an easy target for gulls or the heron.

The swan family was fine, patrolling the pond in their usual fashion. No sign of any moorhen young, and one of the adults was taking twigs and other materials in to the reeds, but it must be too late now to be starting again, surely.
