By-the-wind-sailor

Velella velella. We spotted quite a lot of these on the beach today which were a new species to us. Described as a flat, bluish, oval float with an erect triangular sail which allows the animal to drift with the wind and tide. It traps food with a fringe of stinging tentacles and transfers it to the digestive bodies which hang from the centre of the float.
My extra shows T photographing them too.
Roast rib of beef with all the trimmings followed by apple and blackcurrant crumble tonight. Five of the family go home tomorrow leaving two grandchildren here for a few more days.
