Fire Night - Urkult 2016

Urkult 2016 - "Urkult is an eco-friendly, hippie-style world music festival that’s been around since 1995." It takes place in Nämforsen 130 kms to the north of where we live.
We've already listened to a singer from Greenland (traditional folk), a group from Cairo (wild rave music), and The Songbirds from the USA. Now, at this opening, a Sámi group from the north of Sweden, with strong music and politics!
The burning figures on the ground, ILO 169, refers to the Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention, which Sweden has not signed and which would give the Sámi peoples greater rights to their land and traditions.
We are part of an audience of 8,000 watching this spectacular opening.
Extra…
Taken just before the Fire Ceremony as we all wait for midnight you can see the light of the twilight/dawn. It is a few minutes after midnight, as dark as it's going to get. The sun has gone down but is about to start coming up again.
The midnight light, seen in this forest setting is just one of the magical things about this festival of world music.
PS A year ago (31/7/15 - 2/8/15) I blipped three images from Urkult 15.
PPS The eagle-eyed will spot that I'm a 4 days behind in my blipping. I'll catch up in the next few days,
