Emperor Moth

A whole afternoon on the reserve starting the summer round of fixed point photography for the county council's grazing scheme monitoring. I had a close encounter with an enormous grass snake. It was easily four foot long and by far the largest I've ever seen.  This Emperor Moth (saturnia pavonia) caterpillar was also quite large - for a caterpillar - its about two inches long. I also saw three adders and a few common lizards. Should finish the fixed point work tomorrow.
