Closed, Closed, Open!!

The Kennet and Avon Canal, Avoncliff

Another belated birthday celebration today, this time a lunch outing with two old friends. Feeling a little better, I had suggested a short, gentle riverside walk that would take us from the pub at Freshford, along the river Avon to the pub at Avoncliff, where the Kennet and Avon Canal passes above the river over the Avoncliff Aqueduct.

But the best laid plans of mice and men... The pub at Freshford was closed for renovations, and the footpath along the river was closed to the public for improvement! Back in the car, we managed to find our way to Avoncliff, along lanes that were so narrow that grass was growing in the middle of them! Luckily though, this time the pub was open, and we had a lovely, leisurely lunch in the sun beside the river, with the canal passing above our heads...

(Came home and collapsed in front of the Olympics, and I haven't moved since! Think it was probably a good job that footpath was closed!! )
