Blair Street Vaults

There are many tour guides which take you on numerous different tours around this beautiful city - over-ground and underground!  I took a tour to the underground vaults of Blair Street.  Now, my imagination is rather lively, so I was imagining all kinds of scary things appearing in every corner of the dark, candle-lit damp rooms we were taken into.  The tour-guide was fantastic as was the display at the end of the tour which showed artefacts which were found in the rooms long ago.  The chambers are part of the nineteen arches which make up the South Bridge, which were completed in 1788.  For around 30 years they housed taverns, cobblers, tradesmen and also as storage for illicit materials...including bodies killed for medical experiments by the notorious Burke and Hare.
