New Zealand is home to two species of stilt – the pied stilt and the black stilt.
The Pied Stilt
- Is a self- introduced bird from Australia
- It is a dainty wading bird standing around 35 centimetres high
- It is found in wetlands and coastal areas throughout NZ
- Their diet consists of insects, worms, small shellfish and fish
