Dunnottar Castle

Dunnottar Castle lies on the N.E. coast, a couple of kilometres south of Stonehaven. It dates from the 1400's, the surviving buildings date from the 15th and 16th century. The castle played a prominent part in Scottish history with , figures including William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots visiting the castle. The castle is possibly most famous for its small garrison protecting the Scottish Crown Jewels, which are now kept in Edinburg Castle, from Oliver Cromwell's invading army.
