Memorial Headstone for the children of James Cook

... and Grace Cook in Great Ayton churchyard.  Four children died in Infancy:
Mary in her 5th year; Mary aged 10 months and 6 days; Jayne who died in her 5th year and William 2years, 2 months and 16 days.  Then they lost John who died in 1750 in his 23rd year.

We stopped in Great Ayton on our way to Danby on the edge of the North York Moors. The sun was shining (though still very windy) and it felt like a good place to spend an hour or so, though we didn't find the hoped for tea-shop (which surprised us).  We did manage a coffee from the pub, but it wasn't quite the same.  The sun had gone and the wind was cold by the time we arrived at Pear Tree House.  I think P & J had to have a major clean up after the last inhabitants of the cottage so they were really pleased to hear that we were going to be a bit late.  It feels good to be back - a kind of home from home.

p.s. having problems uploading to blipfoto tonight
