Quarry Bank

We visited Quarry Bank, Styal (near Wilmslow, Cheshire) today. The mill itself was huge, with amazing machinery - clattering looms and hissing steam engines - and of course the turning of the great waterwheel.
In contrast, the gardens were peaceful and summery. The National Trust have done a wonderful job here depicting the grind of daily life of the workers in the mill, in contrast with the leisured life of the mill owners.
We had a lovely day out together, ending with an ice cream in a new garden cafe.
