The sound of Summer

This little fellow was very obliging and posed nicely for me.  We persuaded him to settle onto some white paper for his main photo and then let us put him onto my husbands hand in order to provide some sense of scale (see extra).  I believe he is a common grasshopper (although we didn't tell him that...he might not have liked being called 'common'!).

When all the birds are faint with the hot sun,
And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run
From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead;
That is the grasshopper’s—he takes the lead
In summer luxury—he has never done
with his delights, for when tired out with fun,
He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed.

On the Grasshopper and Cricket.
